Our numbers were up, despite the poor voter turnout (336 in 2007, 613 in 2010). Our percentage was up was up by almost 3 times (6.01 to 17.48). But we didn’t pull off the win.

I remain optimistic for our future. Do not despise the day of small beginnings. As a party we are rebuilding. As a candidate, I have gotten my feet wet, and the water feels good.

Thanks to all who helped our campaign.

The Conservatives have conceded defeat.

The latest news from the WFP:

Concordia seat will likely stay NDP: McFadyen – Winnipeg Free Press

The Conservatives may have given up but we have not. We are still hearing from people today about their desire to see change in Concordia.

On principles

It’s been a great day so far today. We started off with being on 95.9 CKUW with Brian, Ellen and myself talking about our views on issues. CBC news filmed me later on, and CJOB recorded an interview for use tomorrow.

Then it was more door to door. One woman said she wasn’t going to vote for me with a twinkle in her eye – she then said that after reading my brochure, she thought I was doing so much good where I’ve been that I should keep being a social worker in the front lines! By the time I left, I think they understood that I could do even more good in government. We had a great conversation about politicians sticking to their principles once they get elected. I’ve always stuck by my principles, even when it cost me to do so. I will continue to fight for people with no voice to have a voice, to fight for social progression and for government accountability.
