Health Care
Health care is a major concern of Concordia residents, especially wait times and quality of care, but also the availability of family physicians.
Some of the stories that people have told me about:
- A woman was sent home from emergency with an untreated broken leg
- A man didn’t receive his cancer test results for nine months. Unfortunately, I heard this from his widow.
- A woman was sent home from emergency with blood in her urine, and lost significant amounts of blood while at home. A mass was found on her bladder when she went back to the hospital.
Dr. Jon Gerrard, Manitoba’s Liberal leader, left his practice to become a politician and join in the fight to improve our health care system because he recognized that solutions needed to come from government. A fuller picture of the Liberal’s ideas for healthcare can be found here
An interesting point to note about health care is that health care workers are often victims of workplace bullying. This in turn affects patients safety. The Liberal’s introduction of legislation to promote respectful workplaces is another smart strategy that can help us all be healthier and safer, whether health care workers or patients.
As MLA, I intend to advocate for Concordia residents to get quality health services, and by highlighting needs for improvement and different approaches to health care.
